Mazda RX-7 for the model year 2002. Mazda released a limited edition of the RX7 for it's final production year as Spirit R series. 3rd generation RX-7 first launched in 1991, has a lightweight, compact and high-output rotary engine enables the driver to feel superb driving pleasure. Epitomizing Mazda's spirit of sports cars, RX 7 has won popularity among the tuner crowd for its perfomance, since its 1978 launch. Mazda ended the production of the current RX-7 model (FD-3S) in August 2002.
The RX7 Spirit-R series is available in three models: the Type A, a two-seater with a five-speed manual transmission; the Type-B, a four-seater with a five-speed manual transmission; and the Type-C, a four-seater with a four-speed automatic transmission. All three models are equipped with common interior and exterior features, such as BBS 17-inch wheels, red brake calipers, and interior panels with a special soft coating, while each model has its own equipment to make a difference from the other. The Type-A Spirit R is a two-seater model fitted with the Recaro bucket seats. These lightweight seats reduce the overall chassis weight of the vehicle by approximately 10 kg. Braking performance is enhanced through the use of large drilled type ventilated disk brakes for all four wheels and high rigid stainless mesh brake hoses. The Type-A Spirit R model is the ultimate RX-7, boasting the most outstanding driving performance in its history. RX-7 Spirit R is featured in Titanium Gray Metallic paint on pictures.
In 2001, Mazda launched a special edition of their RX-7, the Type RZ (white colored RX7's). The limited edition RX-7 Type RZ is equipped with Recaro bucket seats, a Bilstein custom suspension system, and BBS custom aluminum wheels. These and other enhancements reduce the overall weight of the Type-RZ by approximately 10kg, improving handling and performance.
The improvements to the RX-7 lineup, in general, included modifications to the brake and suspension systems to enhance driving performance and handling stability. The interior features an instrument panel with white meters, metal plated frame rings, and red illumination for a more sporty look. The reinforced side impact bars and ABS equipped with an EBD (electrically-controlled braking distribution) system for all four wheels enhance safety.
